ALLIANCE

The institutions represented here have their own strengths, achievements and international recognition in their teaching programmes and research. Through their on-going research investments, they are and will continue to make significant contributions to education in their own countries and internationally.

Through the Alliance, the eight institutions will bring to the table their accomplishments and strengths and together be a catalyst for change in the area of education. Thus this Alliance endeavours to:

  • Offer something unique by speaking with one collective voice and with some degree of authority on educational matters, especially, teacher education. In this way, it will significantly raise the profile of education in the arenas of public consciousness and government policy

  • Bring synergy to the group to collaborate on issues of major concern in education

  • Be a think tank to deliberate and generate ideas, anticipate trends and future scenarios, and communicate through statements and declarations on critical issues in education that will have impact on policy decisions in the respective countries as well as the rest of the world

  • Develop statements and declarations of interest to international funding institutions and organisations and policy makers

Activities of the Alliance

  • An annual meeting will be organised to identify, discuss and address key issues, identify relevant audiences and develop appropriate communication plans.

  • Members may raise other issues and share inputs on them throughout the year.

  • The Alliance will communicate the outcomes of its collective deliberations to external audiences through appropriate means.

Structure of the Alliance

  • Host institution will provide chairperson and secretariat.

  • Host institution and secretariat will be rotated on an annual basis with responsibilities assumed following the annual meeting.

  • Each host secretariat will complete the cycle of work initiated at the Alliance meeting.
