The Inaugural Meeting at National Institute of Education, Singapore

The inaugural meeting was held at the National Institute of Education, Singapore from 20 to 21 August 2007. Founding members dealt with the immediate issues as well as future directions of the Alliance. During the meeting, the members:

• Deliberated on the objectives of the Alliance, its role, modus operandi, and how the Alliance should go forward.
• Discussed the structure of the alliance and possible inclusion of other leading institutions in the future.
• Discussed the strengths of each institution, how they see themselves moving in the next five years through their strategic planning, and how they view the changing context, landscape and future directions of education.
• Deliberated and agreed on a plan to communicate the Alliance’s statements to a broader group.
• Agreed on the next host, venue and possible agenda. The next host shall be the Danish School of Education, University of Aarhus, Denmark.

At the end of the two-day meeting, a press conference was held and representatives from the local newspapers were present.
